For every parent, your child's birthday party or similar celebration can be a nightmare. Do I go with a theme, or not? How many people? What food should I make / buy? Do I need extra entertainment? What about the parents? There is a lot to think about when you brainstorm exactly what you want and need from your party! We will break it down into sections. Feel free to add what you think is needed, or can help you succeed in creating a party your kids will enjoy and so will you!
Arguably more important than anything else. If your children are young, then you probably are going to have adults around to supervise at the party. So remember to cater for them. For the food its best to keep it simple. No need for Come Dine with Me extravagant specials. Stick to simple, for both kids and adults alike. Party favorites like pizza, mini sausage rolls, simple sandwiches are great. There is no point wasting time putting on something special for kids who just want to fill their plates between having fun! Also adults wont mind having similar food. Its almost expected. If you have the time, you could match the food to your theme. Have "Pirate Pizza" or "Princess Fairy Cakes"! If you are feeling adventurous at a Halloween party then why not try an elaborate Pumpkin cake?
Obviously for the theme, you have to look at great fancy dress costumes. If there is something your children like then go for it! Try to avoid named brands, as it will usually involved every boy wearing one thing, and same for girls. Go broad, like Animals, Princesses, Knights and Pirates. This gives other parents scope to get what they want and for their budget. Once this is determined you can accessorize your garden or living room. Print off some banners and get a party set of cups and throw away plates. Party themed if possible. The main advantage of having a themed party is that kids love them. A themed fancy dress party is also budget-friendly compared to getting in entertainment too, as you can make cheap ways to make traditional games, like treasure hunts, really exciting. All it calls for is some imagination! But but you can keep things as simple as you like – you only have to theme one or two really obvious things, like the invitations and what your children wear, if you prefer.
As said before, try to avoid named brands or the latest film, as it will usually involved every boy wearing one thing, and same for girls. Give imaginative fancy dress ideas, like Animals, Princesses, Knights and Pirates. This gives other parents scope to get what they want and for their budget. The more types of fancy dress available, the more scope for fun kids and parents can have buying or making them.
There are literally hundreds of party games to make your fancy dress party fun! I'm sure you know plenty near sticking the kids in front of the Xbox. Get creative! There are so many party games ideal for fancy dress parties, and other themes!
Overall just have fun! Take lots of photos and make it a party your children will remember!
